  • Pre-IPO holders are subject to underwriter lock-ups with staggered releases; for most holders all locked shares become transferable on or after 8 December 2026. Elon Musk's lock-up runs 366 days, and some holders have longer, extended lock-ups. [1]

How investors hold SpaceX now

  • Class A shares on Nasdaq (SPCX), through any brokerage account that offers US-listed shares.
  • Investors who bought pre-IPO SPV or fund interests hold whatever their vehicle's documents say: usually a pro-rata claim on shares that stay locked up until the release dates, followed by a distribution or sale at the manager's discretion.

What an investor actually owns

  • Two classes of common stock: Class A carries one vote per share and Class B ten. Elon Musk held about 82% of the voting power after the offering, and SpaceX is a "controlled company" under Nasdaq rules. [1]
  • SpaceX merged with xAI (including X) effective 2 February 2026, and Starlink is reported inside its Connectivity segment rather than as a separate company. A five-for-one stock split took effect on 4 May 2026. [1]

Frequently asked questions

Can I still invest in SpaceX before its IPO?
No. SpaceX priced its IPO on 11 June 2026 at $135 per share, and its Class A stock has traded on Nasdaq as SPCX since 12 June 2026. Anyone offering "pre-IPO" SpaceX exposure today is offering something else, such as an interest in a vehicle that holds locked-up shares.
What happens to people who bought SpaceX through a pre-IPO SPV?
It depends on each vehicle's documents. The underlying shares are subject to lock-ups that, for most pre-IPO holders, end on 8 December 2026. After that the manager typically distributes shares or sells them, net of any carry and fees.
Does owning SPCX give exposure to Starlink and xAI?
Yes, as parts of one company. Starlink is reported within SpaceX's Connectivity segment and xAI (including X) merged into SpaceX in February 2026. Neither is listed separately.
What voting rights do public SpaceX shareholders have?
Public buyers hold Class A shares with one vote each. Class B shares carry ten votes each, and Elon Musk controlled about 82% of the voting power after the offering.
